For as long as I can remember, I have loved finding interesting rocks and stones.  Right now, if you looked in any one of my coat pockets, I can guarantee that you will find stone that I’ve picked up on one of my adventures.  I can’t seem to resist picking up stones, carrying them with me and feeling the weight and texture of them in my hands.

So, when I moved to New Brunswick and a new friend took me for a walk on a local beach and asked me, “Have you found a wishing stone on the beach yet?” – I was intrigued and asked her to tell me more.  She bent down and picked up a grey stone that had a white line around it and said, “this is a wishing stone.”  She shared the Wishing Stone legend with me that says:

“If you find a rock with an unbroken white line encircling it, then you have found a Wishing Stone.  It is said that the best Wishing Stones have one continuous line wrapping around the stone that doesn’t intersect with other lines or streaks.  I you make a wish while tracing your finger around the line and then throw the stone into the sea, or give the stone to another person, then your wish will come true.  If the wish you make is for another person, then all of your wishes with come true.”

I loved this legend so much that I made water colour paintings of Wishing Stones for each member of my family and gave them as gifts.  Then, I had the idea that maybe I could share wishing stones with more people.  I began to envision creating a set of Wishing Stone cards that had one of my paintings on the front and on the back would be a message of hope, encouragement or inspiration.

It took me three years to create this set of cards.  I have gone for walks on the beach and sat by the river praying for the messages I might write on the cards.  I wondered, “if I could wish anything for someone, what would that wish be?”  Slowly, the messages for each card came to me.  They are written in the form of a Celtic blessing, like this one:

“May you be present to the small things that make a big difference to your peace and well-being.”

Creating this set of Wishing Stone cards has been an act of love and, I would say, it was a spiritual practice in learning patience, deep listening, and trusting the words as they came.

After three years in the making, these cards are now ready to share with you.  Nothing would delight me more than being able to place these wishing stones in your hands with the hope that they might bring you joy, peace, comfort and encouragement.  You can order Wishing Stones by clicking here, or on the button below.
